Towards Integrated Demobilization, Reintegration, and Reconciliation in North Karamoja

The project titled “Towards Integrated Demobilization, Reintegration and Reconciliation in North Karamoja, Uganda” addresses persistent insecurity, unresolved communal tensions, and the socioeconomic exclusion of demobilized Karachunas. It seeks to consolidate peace through two core components: demobilization and reconciliation anchored in youth-led dialogues, advocacy, and capacity building and socioeconomic reintegration through skilling, cooperative ventures, and agricultural support. The initiative directly targets 12 groups of Karachunas (360 individuals), equipping them with tools and livelihoods to act as positive agents of change. Beyond the direct beneficiaries, the project contributes to reconciliation and stability for an estimated 18,500 community members. Implementation spans the territories of Kotido Catholic Diocese covering Abim, Kotido, Kaabong, and Karenga and extends to neighboring Bokora, Matheniko, Acholi, and Turkana communities. Ultimately, the project prevents renewed conflict, fosters inclusive development, and advances long-term peace consolidation in North Karamoja.
