Introduction

The Justice and Peace Department (JPD-K) is one of the seven Social Services Department of Kotido Catholic Diocese. The Department is active in the following sectors: peacebuilding and conflict resolution and environmental and land management. JPD-K aims at building a violence-free society where people live a just, peaceful and prosperous life according to the social teaching of the Church and where communities handle conflicts constructively and treat each other with respect.

JPD-K is currently looking for qualified candidates to implement:

  • A 3 year-long Project “Holistic Reintegration of Demobilised Youth Combatants in Northern Karamoja” financed by the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI). The Project seeks to consolidate peace in North Karamoja through the Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration and Reconciliation (DDRR) approach with a specific focus on the (socioeconomic and psychosocial) reintegration component.
Position: Livelihood Field Assistants
No. of Positions: 6
Location: Kotido/Kaabong Districts at field level
Contract: Full-time position (40h/week)
Reporting to: Project Officer – Livelihoods – and Department Coordinator
Duration: 1 year (probation of 3 months)
Gross salary: 618,000 UGX to 772,000 UGX depending on experience. 25 days of annual leave pro-rata.  
Job Purpose Under the supervision of Project officer, the Livelihood Assistants (LAs) will be responsible for direct implementation of the Project livelihood support activities, training and capacity building, MEAL support, and community engagement. More specifically, the LAs will perform the following key duties and responsibilities. Please note that the positions are field-based.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the practical execution of Project related activities at field level.

Support the delivery of training sessions on different topics such as agriculture and livestock management, business and life skills, and sustainable practices by preparing materials, managing logistics and documenting feedbacks.

Promote climate-smart agricultural practices and production technologies.Collect agricultural market information, when necessary and as directed.Support the set-up and monitor the performance of the beneficiaries IGAs of choice.

Facilitate donor and stakeholder visits.Provide support for MEAL activities through the collection of data and the preparation of progress reports.

Engage with local communities to ensure Project ownership and buy-in.Draft activity reports and support the process of monthly reporting ensuring that all relevant details are accurately captured.

Organization of the monthly workplan within the multidisciplinary team, with the support of Department Coordinator and Project officer.

Contribute to the production of case study, collect testimonies to provide evidence of intervention and input in reporting to the PM and Project Officer.

Any other task assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, skills and experience
Diploma in agriculture, agribusiness, forestry, agroforestry, livelihoods, or related discipline.

BA is an asset.At least 1-year experience in facilitating training sessions using the APFS approach.

Experience supporting the formation and monitoring of VSLA groups on the ground.Experience in the context of crisis intervention and emergency settings.

Good understanding of community-based approaches.Good listening and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to travel alone in remote hard-to-reach areas is essential.Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.

Ability to work with partners (local and international actors).Ability to work under and cope with pressure and stressful environments.

Familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet.

Language fluency in English and Ngakarimojong is essential.
