Introduction
The Justice and Peace Department (JPD-K) is one of the seven Social Services Department of Kotido Catholic Diocese. The Department is active in the following sectors: peacebuilding and conflict resolution and environmental and land management. JPD-K aims at building a violence-free society where people live a just, peaceful and prosperous life according to the social teaching of the Church and where communities handle conflicts constructively and treat each other with respect.

JPD-K is currently looking for qualified candidates to implement:
- A 3 year-long Project “Holistic Reintegration of Demobilised Youth Combatants in Northern Karamoja” financed by the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI). The Project seeks to consolidate peace in North Karamoja through the Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration and Reconciliation (DDRR) approach with a specific focus on the (socioeconomic and psychosocial) reintegration component.

| Job Purpose Under the supervision of Project officer, the Psychosocial Assistants (PSAs) will be responsible for direct implementation of Project interventions on the ground such as the identification of project beneficiaries, their initial screening and the provision and management of individual and group sessions at community level. More specifically, the PSAs will perform the following key duties and responsibilities. Please note that the positions are field-based. |
| Key Duties and Responsibilities Provide initial screening of beneficiaries to identify their MHPSS needs in close relation with the beneficiaries. Provide psychosocial support session at individual level through individual therapy sessions on the ground in line with the identified needs of the beneficiary of reference. Organize and provide psychosocial support at group level through the provision of group therapy sessions for the groups in the assigned area of work. Refer all cases requiring specialized mental health care and/or complementary individual psychosocial support to the appropriate services. Organize mediation and reunification at family/community level for the supported the demobilized youth.Encourage participation of peers in the group session. Ensure a qualitative follow up of the beneficiaries and document the follow up according to the monitoring plan whilst maintaining complete confidentiality. Ensure a daily quantitative and qualitative reporting through the tools (assessment form, follow up form, discharger and monitoring form, groups report) and system in place. Draft activity reports and support the process of monthly reporting ensuring that all relevant details are accurately captured. Organization of the monthly workplan within the multidisciplinary team, with the support of Department Coordinator and Project officer. Contribute to the production of case study, collect testimonies to provide evidence of intervention and input in reporting to the PM and MHPSS Specialist. Any other task assigned by the supervisor. |
| Qualifications, skills and experience Diploma of Community Based Rehabilitation, social work, adult education, development studies, community health. BA is a strong asset. Experience in facilitating individual and group (therapy) sessions. Practical experience in mental health and psychosocial support. Experience in the context of crisis intervention and emergency settings. Good understanding of community-based approaches.Good listening and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of the principles of referrals mechanisms and pathways.Ability to travel alone in remote hard-to-reach areas is essential. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team. Ability to work with partners (local and international actors). Ability to work under and cope with pressure and stressful environments. Familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet.Knowledge of the MHPSS and peace building in Karamoja. Language fluency in English and Ngakarimojong is essential.
