At the Justice and Peace Department Kotido Catholic Diocese (JPD-K), our work is guided by three main focus areas that address the most pressing challenges faced by communities in Northern Karamoja and beyond. These areas are interconnected and reflect our commitment to fostering peace, equity, and sustainable development.
Objective: To create lasting peace by addressing the root causes of conflict and promoting reconciliation.
What we do.
Facilitate dialogue between conflicting groups to foster mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.
Reintegrate ex-cattle rustlers into society by providing vocational training and counseling.
Strengthen local Justice and Peace Committees to mediate disputes and promote accountability.
Organize reconciliation forums to rebuild trust between divided communities.
Why it matters
Peace is the foundation of development. By preventing conflicts and promoting reconciliation, we create a safe and stable environment where individuals and communities can thrive.
Objective: To protect the environment, build resilience to climate change, and promote sustainable resource management.
What we do
Conduct environmental education campaigns to raise awareness about conservation and sustainable practices.
Support reforestation projects and the rehabilitation of degraded lands.
Develop disaster preparedness programs to help communities respond to climate-related risks.
Collaborate with local governments to establish policies that protect natural resources and promote sustainability.
What Matters
The environment is the backbone of livelihoods in Northern Karamoja. By addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainability, we ensure the well-being of both present and future generations.
Objective: To promote equity by addressing systemic gender inequalities and empowering women.
What we do
Advocate for women’s land rights and ownership to promote economic independence.
Conduct leadership training programs to prepare women for roles in decision-making and governance.
Engage communities in cultural transformation campaigns to challenge harmful gender norms.
Provide platforms for women to connect, share experiences, and collectively advocate for their rights.
Why it Matters
Empowering women strengthens entire communities. When women have equal access to resources and opportunities, they become key drivers of social and economic progress.
